    Food and beverage industries are served by 51% of the system integrators in the Control Engineering Automation Integrator Guide, which includes information from 1,878 system integrators. Three other industries were cited by more than 40% of the integrators: automation, instrumentation, and control; automotive; and water and wastewater.

    The following table shows percentage of listings in the on-line Automation Integrator Guide that have cited each of the following industries under "Industries Served," as of December 2008.

    51% food, beverage, and allied industries (including baking, confections, and snack foods)
    48% automation, instrumentation, and control
    43% automotive (components and manufacturing)

    38% manufacturing (general or unspecified)

    28% utilities (electric, gas, water, and sanitary)
    27% machinery and heavy equipment (including machine tools)
    26% discrete manufacturing
    25% electrical equipment (including batteries and motors)
    25% power generation and distribution
    25% engineering and construction (services, equipment, and materials)
    24% bottling and canning
    24% consumer products (including soap, cosmetics, and household products)
    23% rubber, plastics, paint, and composite materials
    22% original equipment manufacturing
    22% steel (products, fabrication, and manufacturing)
    22% metals (including mining and processing)
    22% energy production, management, and conservation
