  • Technicians get real-time operating status of remotely located equipment with Skymira

Skymira solution combines data from 2 applications on separate satellite systems into one management tool so technicians can monitor real-time operating status of remote equipment.

    -- Control Engineering, 11/19/2009

Skymira LLC, a provider of satellite and cellular technologies for the seamless management of remote operations, announced that it has enhanced its TailorFit Solutions by combining its popular Electronic Forms and Telemetry/SCADA services.

That level of system integration provides technicians with real-time operating status of remotely located equipment under their care while operating in some of the roughest terrain imaginable, the company says.

Skymira provides remote field solutions for Work Order Automation using its Electronic Forms service and its Telemetry/SCADA service, with each service typically using separate satellite networks. Combining the applications equips field technicians more easily monitor remotely located units and detect early warning signs of failure and avoid costly machine downtime.

The new offering, first of its kind, provides "exponential benefits," said Robert Landsfield, CEO, Skymira, because technicians driving in trucks can check the status of equipment operating hundreds of miles away.

As part of the solution include spending time to understand client needs and the application. This assures that clients have visibility to all areas within the business where access to remote information will drive increased returns, to resolve increasingly complex challenges, and unlock value often hidden within a company's existing processes, Skymira suggested.

      Engineering with Ethernet

The debate about Ethernet's viability on the plant floor is no longer an issue for most engineers. Their concerns now focus on the variety of specifications and possibilities for industrial Ethernet-ranging from protocols, switch architectures, and Power over Ethernet to safety concerns, legacy network connection issues and wireless possibilities.

      Technologies for Regulatory Compliance

Regulatory compliance is an issue which is becoming increasingly critical for manufacturers of all types as federal agencies clamp down on violations of all types.
