Staff -- Control Engineering, 10/1/2000

  • ABB Automation (Rochester, N.Y.) unveiled Sept. 25 a new seven-product software portfolio for process manufacturing, IndustrialIT, which also includes a new controller. These Microsoft-related products debuted during a webcast at the firm's studios in Redmond, Wa. For more coverage, see p.29 in this section.
  • Invensys plc (London) recently acquired the Walsh Group's (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) Walsh Automation Inc. and Validation Technologies Inc. subsidiaries. These units will keep their names and continue to optimize plant performance as part of Invensys' new Software Systems Division. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • To give it "a more global perspective," ISA (Research Triangle Park, N.C.) recently renamed itself as the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society. It was previously called ISA, the international society for measurement and control, and before that it was known as the Instrumentation Society of America.
  • Intellution Inc. (Norwood, Mass.) recently unveiled a new customer support site, iGlobalCare Online, which includes software tools to help users reduce application development time and create more powerful automation solutions. The updated site, located at support.intellution.com, features enhanced technical content and a new user interface for easier navigation.
