Users like high accuracy, vendor service for level measuring devices

Staff -- Control Engineering, 12/1/1999

Natick, Mass.—In light of a moderate 3.1% compound annual growth rate expected over five years in the market for process level measurement devices, Venture Development Corp. (VDC) recommends that vendors "pay close attention to customer requirements to survive, let alone grow." Further challenges result from numerous competing technologies and a large number of vendors, according to VDC. Its recent market study, "The U.S. Level Measurement and Inventory Tank Gauging Industry, Sixth Edition," also predicts a 5.4% growth rate for the U.S. inventory tank gauging market. High accuracy was among the most valued selection criteria for purchasers—with 68% reporting it most important when choosing process measurement devices, and 89% judging it most important when picking inventory tank gauging systems. VDC found that high reliability/quality was the second most important criteria when selecting each type of device—at 65% and 42%, respectively. Compared to a similar study two years prior, VDC adds, "Price has become a much more important criteria in selecting among vendors in both categories of devices."
