Honeywell launches server architecture

Phoenix. Ariz.— Mae West was right. Too much of a good thing can be wonderful-especially if components are well coordinated. For instance, to allow multiple PlantScape DCS to work as one integrated system without duplicating engineering, Honeywell Industrial Automation and Control unveiled July 12 its PlantScape Distributed Server Architecture as part of its PlantScape Release 300.

Honeywell says the architecture can handle remote requirements over slower wide area networks. This helps it integrate processes with multiple control rooms or segment control across units. The architecture also provides flexibility for geographically distributed sites, such as managing multi-segment pipelines and oil and gas fields from multiple remote locations or a central control room.

Distributed Server Architecture also delivers global access to all point data and alarms in the Distributed Server system. Before this architecture was available, integrating multiple processes and applications required added engineering costs, database duplication, non-integrated alarming, and gateway technology that caused communication bottlenecks.

Honeywell IAC also announced that Fisher-Rosemount's Provox system, Moore's APACS controller, and Bailey's Infi 90 system have been added to the list of interfaces to PlantScape DCS. With these additions, Honeywell now offers more than 30 interfaces, including OLE for Process Control. The company says this is the largest selection of migration paths available to interface with customers' legacy systems.

One of these customers will be USFilter Corp. (Minneapolis, Minn.), which recently agreed with Honeywell IAC to become a PlantScape Solution Provider. USFilter's Control Systems Group will be Honeywell's preferred channel partner for expanding PlantScape's growth in the water and wastewater treatment market.
