Dedham, Mass.— Suppliers are continuing to move into new territories as the $7.7 billion process automation system (PAS) market consolidates, according to a recent study by the ARC Advisory Group. The report, "Worldwide Process Automation Systems Outlook: Market Analysis and Forecast through 2003," projects PAS market revenues through 2003 will decline in hardware; increase in project services and software; and increase slightly in maintenance for an average increase of 4% per year through 2003. While traditional PAS users, such as the refining and petrochemical industries, continue to curb capital spending on automation, suppliers are targeting other profitable industries. These include traditional PLC sanctuaries, such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, water, wastewater, and automotive.
