Wellingborough, U.K. —With demand for Coca-Cola running at 40 million hectolitres/year in Germany, precise filling to preset volumes is critical. Consequently, Coca-Cola recently selected Krohne's new Autoflux IFS 5000 electromagnetic flowmeter to provide measurement accuracy of at least 0.1% by volume in its increasingly polyethylene-based (PET) bottling plant (Liederbach, Germany). Because PET expands slightly when pressureized during filling and measurement, Coca-Cola's bottling process needed a new measuring principle. Electromagnetic flowmeters offer flexible volumetric filling, so Krohne installed its Altoflux IFS 5000, an electromagnetic flowmeter with a flow-shaping ceramic measuring tube fitted with "Cermet" platinum-ceramic composite electrodes. Fine-grained, barrel shaped Cermet electrodes are sintered in place in the flowmeter's ceramic measuring tube, flush with the tube wall, where they are hermetically tight and crevice-free.
