Company information all on the web

Lara Jackson -- Control Engineering, 1/1/1999

With the increasing popularity of the Internet, people are turning to the click of a mouse to find company information instead of a phone call.

The best place to begin looking for the latest technology news is Control Engineering's web site at www.controleng.com. It also contains subscription information, evemts calendar, and important phone and fax numbers, in addition to the current and past issues of the magazine. This site links to www.manufacturing.net, which provides the latest manufacturing information.

Many automation and control engineering companies have company sites; here is a sampling of some sites and some of their highlights:

Honeywellwww.honeywell.com : listing of current projects; products glossary with applications and specifications; process line with a tour; and markets with related features, benefits, and a products overview.

Klockner-Moellerwww.moellerusa.net : company overview, list and navigator, standard products and engineered systems, and the Industrial Automation Division.

Fisher-Rosemountwww.frco.com : a what's new section, site map, a library with relevant information in process-related industries (includes links to sites unrelated to engineering, such as CNN or weather).

ABBwww.abb.com : connect to ABB groups worldwide, an overview of the markets (can pick a specific category, then pick the specific product).

PLCDirect www.plc : latest product featured on home page, new product listings—hotlink to full description of the product; press releases, and product manuals are online.

Groupe Schneiderwww.groupeschneider.com : site map contains different divisions, late-breaking news can hotlink to worldwide Schneider sites, and a list of trade fairs where Groupe Schneider will be.

Phoenix Contactwww.phoenixcontact.com : contact specific country location, product listings have summary and a visual diagram of the product, application stories—examples of how and where the certain product is used.

Wonderwarewww.wonderware.com : download some products, training schedules and course descriptions, site index, products section—description and where it can be used, listing of distributors and systems integrators, and who customers are.

Xycomwww.xycom.com : company history, Year 2000 Compliance—the company shows which products are Year 2000 compliant, can check out individual products.

Siemenswww.siemens.com : press releases, business segments divided into different categories, "Siemens Power Generation"—fields activity with diagrams of each service, partnership statement how the company provides services to customers.

Register Accreditation Board (RAB)www.rabnet.com : information on accrediation and certification activities for both ISO 9000 and ISO 14001, RAB news, press releases, graphic of what RAB is and processes it goes through, News & Notes—current edition of the newsletter.

These are a sampling of some of the sites on the web. Every day hundreds of new sites appear; if you search for it—it will be there, if not today, perhaps tomorrow.
