Moore will supply power station's process automation

Staff -- Control Engineering, 11/1/1998

Spring House, Pa. In partnership with Syseca (Manchester, U.K.) and in association with Ambrio (Burton-on-Trent, U.K.), Moore Process Automation Solutions recently secured a contract from Eastern Merchant Generation to supply a new control system for two 500 MW units at Rugeley Power Station (Staffordshire, U.K.). Moore will design, configure, and commission its APACS+ process automation systems to provide distributed plant input/output and most of the station's real-time control.

Total I/O count will be about 5,500 channels. Advanced control algorithms allow rapid start up and shut down of generating capacity in response to market needs.

Eastern Merchant Generation's new "soft desk" will implement display and command functions entirely from PC monitors and keyboards. Soft desk accommodates board overviews or rapidly focuses down to give a closer level of detail on specific plant items, which gives operators more flexibility.
