Cahners offers wealth of online information

Lara Jackson, Editorial Assistant -- Control Engineering, 11/1/1998

Cahners Business Information offers a gamut of useful web sites to those who work in control engineering.

The main web site for readers of Control Engineering and Control Engineering International is www.controleng.com. Among other features, the reader can search for current and back issues or a specific topic. Another important aspect is the listing of associations which include addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses which are pertinent to control engineers. A calendar of events and new product listings also are included on this web site. General information including subscription and resources (including media kits) can be obtained through www.controleng.com/info also.

For engineers who would like to discuss the latest news and technology in their industrial niche, www.controleng.com offers a number of online forums. Input from these forums can be helpful in solving problems which control engineers face every day. Request free information or renew your free subscription at www.controleng.com/info.

Year 2000 info

For "surfers" who want to know everything about the manufacturing industry, including extensive Y2K info, Manufacturing Marketplace's web site at www.manufacturing.net is the place to visit. According to Cahners, "it is one of the Internet's most comprehensive sites tailored to the engineering, design, purchasing, logistics, and distribution professionals."

The manufacturing marketplace web site contains a directory with a searchable database of over 30,000 manufacturers and service companies. An interested buyer may browse among such topics as plant systems; services and equipment; chemicals; and machine tools, machining equipment, and supplies.

The latest news—divided into the "Top Ten News Items" in manufacturing in business and economic news—is updated twice daily on business days, including feeds from Lexis-Nexis. Stories are listed from the previous two days also, in case you missed out on an important item. New products are showcased and updated once a week on this web site also. An unique feature of this web site is "Your Page," which customizes a version of the site to fit user needs. Weekly email notification highlights can also be sent.

Manufacturing Marketplace's home page has four sections: magazine highlights, economics, Year 2000, and news in depth. The 24 magazines of the Manufacturing Marketplace "umbrella" include: Control Engineering, Instrumentation and Automation News, Plant Engineering, Design News, and Powder/Bulk Solids. Tradeshows and associations can also be searched for on www.manufacturing.net.

Labor Market

A large section, dedicated to online job personnel searching, is sponsered by the Monster Board. This part includes job search, resume post, post-a-job, which includes links to career-related government web sites, salary surveys, magazine articles, and the latest employment situation report from the U.S. Department of Labor.

If business is your forte, then check out the Cahners web site at www.cahners.com, which has such useful references as the CARR (Cahners Advertising Research Reports) report, which is a newsletter for technology vendors, In-Stat Group high technology market research firm, forums and an electronic media newsletter. The newsletter has many Internet-related news items and the list of all magazines, products, and services Cahners encompasses.

As the largest U.S. supplier of business-to-business information, Cahners' web site has a diverse surplus of information by industry, opportunities in market access, advertising, research (Cahners Economics is the Internet's leading forecaster), and career opportunities, a guide to online communications and marketing, media kits, and directions to major offices, including Control Engineering.

Cahners parent company, Reed-Elsevier, is the world leading publisher and information supplier of scientific, professional, and business publishing is at www.reed-elsevier.com.

Whether you need straight economic facts, engineering problem solutions, or a listing of associations, you will find it on one of these web sites.
