Phar Lap shows embedded Internet in action

Staff -- Control Engineering, 8/1/1998

Cambridge, Mass.— Because it's good to try on software before adopting it, Phar Lap Software Inc. recently launch-ed its Embedded WebFarm, which lets engineers try Phar Lap's real-time operating system, Realtime ETS Kernel, on different x86 hardware platforms.

Webfarm is located at www.webfarm.pharlap.com, WebFarm lets users run live comparative hardware benchmarks and examine various embedded Internet devices in action. Realtime ETS Kernel with Embedded Web Technology allows WebFarm users to develop and incorporate a tiny web server in their embedded hardware.

Embedded Internet applications may include test and measurement instrumentation, medical devices, smart home systems, and factory floor controllers.

WebFarm's hardware includes PC/ 104 and PCI CPU and single-board computers. Processors on the boards range from 386EX to 486 and the Intel Pentium. Each WebFarm hardware vendor member has a discrete URL for its embedded Internet device. This enables users worldwide to view specific vendors' hardware by accessing those URLs.
