Boerne, Tex. — To recognize ARCNet's longevity as a networking standard and its rebirth as an embedded network or field technology, the ARCNet Trade Assocation (ATA) is producing an interactive CD-ROM called ARCNet— The First 20 Years Platinum Anthology. Project sponsors include: ATA, Standard Microsystems, Contemporary Control Systems, Toyo Microsystems, and the Europe-based ARCNet Users Group. They want to collect all the ARCNet-related materials they can find for the CD, and are asking ARCNet users to send any applicable application notes, articles, handbooks, guides, and case studies as soon as possible.
ARCNet—The First 20 Years Platinum Anthology will include ARCNet's history, technology, competing technology comparisons, product guide, implementation list, executable software drivers and driver source code, diverse application case studies, member listings, a tutorial for newcomers, reliability demonstrations, and Internet resources.
The sponsors hope to produce a minimum of 7,500 CDs, and distribute them at ISA Expo/98 on Oct. 19-22and other upcoming trade shows.
