Brushless dc motor with onboard control

-- Control Engineering, 3/1/2001

Harleysville, Pa.-Elcom ST size 23 slotted brushless dc (bldc) motors feature commutation control electronics inside the motor housing. This custom option reduces size, weight, and operating cost versus standard bldc motors, says the manufacturer. Wiring connections are also simplified. Elcom ST produces up to 49 oz-in. continuous torque and can run as fast as 8,000 rpm. It is available in two-wire open-loop speed control version (12-48 V and up to 8 A) or reversible motor version up to 3 A. Closed-loop motor speed control and encoder feedback options can also be included in the motor enclosure.
