New family of flat-panel computers & monitors showcases latest technologies

-- Control Engineering, 2/1/2000

Greenville, S.C.-Computer Dynamics introduces the Century-C/M Series, a family of enclosed flat panel computers and monitors available in four display sizes (10.4' VGA, 12.1' SVGA, 15' XGA and 18.1' SXGA). Century-C/M systems offer industrial and OEM users the latest technology with style. All units include a high-reliability analog resistive touchscreen for simple operator input. Enclosures are offered with or without a membrane keypad. Modular design allows quick and easy detachment of the front display unit from the rear electronics unit.

Century-C flat panel computers feature socket 370 Celeron CPUs to 500 MHz and the new C&T 69030 video controller, which handles display resolutions up to 1280x1024 with 24-bit color. The video chip's Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) further enhances video speed. Standard PC functionality includes two RS-232 ports, two RS-232/422 ports, parallel port, mouse and keyboard/speaker connectors (front and side-accessible), 10/100BaseT Ethernet and Sonalert output. A 6.4GB hard drive and 128MB DRAM are standard, along with a 1.44M front-accessible floppy drive. Century-C systems come with Windows 95, 98 or NT installed. An expansion chassis is also available, which provides two PCI and two ISA slots.

Century-M flat panel monitors accept standard analog video signals. The 12.1' display size and larger feature Computer Dynamics' Smart Size ability to expand and cleanly show lower resolution images on high-resolution screens.

Century-C/M Series enclosures are constructed of durable brushed aluminum, rear-vented for air flow. Designed to be panel-mounted, the front affords NEMA 4 protection. The membrane keypad provides alpha, numeric and punctuation keys, 10 function keys and arrow buttons, all with tactile feedback.
