Medina, N.Y. —American Sigma has received a patent for its Fluid Flow Measurement Correcting System used on 900 Series flowmeters. The correcting system calculates open channel fluid flow levels by compensating for "drawdown effect"—the decrease in pressure that occurs when velocity increases. Employing a probe with depth sensors, the stem monitors flow rates based on increases in fluid velocity. As the velocity of water increases, pressure drop is induced near the pressure sensor on either side of the probe. Pressure is also decreased at the level sensor.
