Checker vision sensor is said to be a new approach to detecting presence or absence of product features, from the straw on a juice box to multiple buttons on an automotive instrument panel. Device provides a reliable alternative to using multiple photoelectric sensors in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical packaging applications and discrete parts manufacturing, yet is faster and far easier to use than a general-purpose vision system, because it only detects presence, according to Cognex. General-purpose vision products address a variety of vision tasks.

Unique, patent-pending technology enables Checker to detect when a product is present in its field of view without need for an external trigger. First-time users can power up the unit, connect the USB cable to a PC, and follow a simple setup procedure to be up and running in minutes.

Checker includes lighting, optics, I/O connections, and processor in an IP67-rated package. An all-in-one design simplifies installation and setup. Shipping starts in December 2004. The vision sensor was introduced at Pack Expo. www.cognex.com
