DMC-31x3 series flexible/distributed controllers from Galil Motion Control are designed for machines that require multi-axis controllers operating in a distributed network. These devices free host computers from the complex task of motion coordination, as well as lowering controller cost per axis.

In essence, DMC-31x3 consists of a firmware option for Galil's DMC-21x3 motion controller. DMC-21x3 is an Ethernet controller for multi-axis systems. It accepts various plug-in drives for stepper and servo motors to provide a low-cost motion solution with minimal wiring.

The DMC-31x3 option allows multiple DMC-21x3 controllers to be connected in a distributed network. In this scenario, one DMC-31x3 is designated as the master and can communicate with other DMC-31x3 controllers in the network. This allows separate motion controllers to be placed next to motor hardware and mechanics as required. For example, in a six-axis system there might be three separate XY tables located far apart, and each of these would be controlled by a two-axis DMC-3123. The three DMC-3123 controllers are then connected in a distributed Ethernet network.
