Software helps design complex controls

Matrikon's ProcessACT

Staff -- Control Engineering, 1/1/2005

ProcessACT advanced process control software from Matrikon helps users design, develop, simulate, and implement process control applications. The software's data acquisition, analysis, and modeling tools handle even complex control problems, while rapid prototyping capability and analysis tools test alternate scenarios to find the best strategy. ProcessACT is typically used in conjunction with other control systems to tackle challenging regulatory control problems.

ProcessACT's layers of control reportedly form a pyramid, with each layer dependent upon the layer below to perform its allocated function. Advanced control and optimization efforts must be based on a solid foundation to provide value. Signals must be reliable and regular, and regulatory control must reject disturbances and maintain the process at setpoint.

In addition, ProcessACT provides tools to design, develop, simulate, and implement advanced process control strategies. For example, the software's Communication and Signal Processing toolbox treats incoming data. Soft Sensing (Inferential Measurement) toolbox lets engineers develop soft sensors for non-linear dynamic systems, and use them as advisory tools, or as a part of a closed-loop control strategy.

Also, Advanced Regulatory Control toolbox can be used to replace or enhance the existing plant regulatory layer and enable users to implement model-based control for Single Input Single Output (SISO) systems using Internal Model Control (IMC). Supervisory Control and Optimization toolbox contains MPC, fuzzy logic, and math tools for process management. And, Simulation toolbox can simulate and test control strategies off line. www.matrikon.com
