Intrinsically safe PDA

Ecom Instruments' i.roc x 10-Ex

Staff -- Control Engineering, 1/1/2005

Ecom Instruments reports that its i.roc x 10-Ex industrial PDA is lightweight, rugged, and ergonomic. It comes in three versions, including ruggedized; gas zone 2/dust zone 22; and gas zone 1/dust zone 21. With compact external dimensions based on Windows Mobile, i.roc x10-Ex has integrated WLAN 802.11b, Bluetooth, and IrDA infrared port.

Bluetooth in i.roc x 10-Ex allows communication with other Bluetooth devices, including RFID readers, HART modems, GPS receivers, position sensors, headsets, and barcode readers. It also allows online connection via Bluetooth-enabled mobile telephones, wireless data synchronization via ActiveSync with PCs. The PDA's integrated WLAN 802.11b enables access to Internet, e-mail, company data, and Voice-over-IP. WLAN and Bluetooth can be used simultaneously in i.roc x 10-Ex without one affecting the other, while it also allows peer-to-peer communication with other WLAN-enabled units.

Other features include a high-resolution color display that can be read in unfavorable, ambient light. It is protected from static electricity, water, and dust by a shockproof, non-corroding housing (IP65). VPN software ensures advanced security for wireless connections.

In addition, i.roc x 10-Ex has an SD slot, which allows storage of data, circuit diagrams, programs, and backups on SD memory cards, as well as support of SDIO cards, installation of upgrade cards, such as barcode scanners or special account cards, and aids optimum security with advanced protection for the unit, data, and connections. Also, the PDA's VPN software ensures advanced security for wireless connections, while WEP encryption with 64 or 128 bits for wireless connections provides increased security for authorized connections and data transfers, and F-Secure FileCrypto data encryption ensures protection from unintended data disclosures. www.ecom-ex.com
