Award for work in advanced process control

Staff -- Control Engineering, 12/1/2005

Cincinnati, OH—The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has awarded the Computing Practice Award to Dr. Mike Morshedi, inventor and co-inventor of several multivariable predictive control technologies in widespread use today. The award recognizes his ongoing contributions to advance real-time process control and optimization.

Dr. Morshedi is a thought leader and mathematical expert in advanced process control and real-time optimization. Since the introduction of constrained Dynamic Matrix Control (U.S. patent #4,616,308 by Morshedi et al) that led to the widespread commercialization of constrained multivariable predictive-control, his ability to combine advanced mathematics with pragmatic application continues to benefit process industry operations.

As chief scientist at PAS Inc., Dr. Morshedi supports the delivery and development of Star multivariable predictive control, Nova real-time optimization, and Polymers NLC technology to combine multivariable predictive control with first principles modeling. These technologies have been installed at most of the world's largest oil companies, and also hold a significant presence in the petrochemical, chemicals, and purified gas industries.
