Chinese utility-metering company chooses Coronis Systems

-- Control Engineering, 12/15/2005

Chicago, ILHowDeep Tech Co. Ltd, a provider of individual, commercial, and industrial utility-metering solutions in China, has selected France-based Coronis Systems to provide wireless solutions for gas metering. It is Coronis’ first large-scale industrial contract in China.

The contract’s initial phase involves equipping 50,000 residences in Yichang, China, with a wireless, automatic meter-reading (AMR) system. Coronis will provide its patented ultra-low-power, Wavenis long-range wireless-technology to enable remote monitoring of the 50,000-node gas-meter network, which also uses Wavenis-enabled network infrastructure, wireless meter monitors, software, and customizable wireless modules.

In addition to providing bidirectional network technology that specifically addresses the autonomy and range constraints found in metering installations, Coronis’ solution will provide added-value benefits such as leak detection, data logging, valve control, and other features to help meet customers’ evolving requirements.

“The fact that a European company was the best choice for this project is a very significant act in China’s metering field. It not only proves our own company’s business strategy, but it also highlights the global nature of market requirements for AMR solutions,” says Olivier Guilbaud, president of Coronis Systems. The company recently opened a new office in Chicago, IL, to support its innovative approach to AMR systems in North American markets directly.

Founded in 2000, HowDeep Tech Co. Ltd. provides AMR to electric-, gas- and water-utilities throughout China. Since 2003 the company has won contracts from seven utilities that will include 750,000 gas- and water-meters.
