Omron begins full-scale entry into India

Staff -- Control Engineering, 5/1/2006

Tokyo, Japan—Omron Corp., a $5.5 billion/yr, manufacturer of automation and sensing products, has established Omron Automation PVT Ltd. (OEP-IN), a wholly owned subsidiary in New Delhi, India. The move marks the beginning of a full-scale entry to the rapidly growing Indian factory automation market by Omron's Industrial Automation Business (IAB). The new company will handle the sales and servicing of IAB's control equipment and is scheduled to start operations in April 2006.

India's factory automation market is growing rapidly, centered on the automotive industry. Until now, IAB has serviced Indian customers through its OEP-SG subsidiary in Singapore, with representative offices for sales and service in New Delhi, Bangalore, and Mumbai. By establishing a local sales subsidiary with distribution rights, IAB aims to provide a timelier and more personalized level of customer support.

Takashi Kitagawa, president of OEP-IN said, "IAB has earmarked India as a market whose growth potential is second only to China." Omron projects revenues of ¥1.2 billion (about $10.2 million as of April 5, 2006) from OEP-IN in fiscal 2006.
