SPS/IPC/Drives 2006: Ethernet, safety, security

Ethernet in automation, safety and security in automation, and motion control were among key topics discussed at SPS/IPC/Drives 2006. The exhibit and conference for automation technologies, ran Nov. 28-30, 2006, in Nuremberg, Germany, with more than 1,200 exhibitors covering HMIs, drives, interface and sensor technologies, software, electromechanics, and other systems and components. The 2005 exhibit drew nearly 36,000 visitors. Forums, panel discussions, and conference technical sessions complemented exhibits, which included wireless and other network technologies; Linux in automation; and sensing, measuring, and testing products.
- DST 45-100 servomotor series from Baumüller is said to render the torque motor servo-ready. Product provides a higher torque density while reducing device volume by some 30%. The usual speed range of up to 4,500 rpm remains covered. Housing design protects against dirt. Motors are intended for applications in sensitive industrial environments such as textiles, robotics, and packaging and as direct drives.
