Robot safety standard approved, safety conference planned

Ann Arbor, MI— The Robotic Industries Association (RIA) has recently updated its safety standards. Approved by ANSI (American National Institute of Standards) last month,  ANSI/RIA/ISO 10218-1-2007 Standard, with national adoption of  the ISO (International Standards Organization) standard, addresses safety requirements for new robot features in “Robots for Industrial Environment Safety Requirements, Part 1 – Robot.”

Experts will highlight these new requirements during the National Robot Safety Conference XIX (Oct. 1-4, Monday through Thursday) at the Marriott Center East in Indianapolis. Topics include how the standard affects the manufacture of new robots, user impact, and ramifications on older applications, as well as how the information differs from ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999 and related compliance implications.

The Safety Conference also offers single- or half-day workshops on Monday and Thursday, a two-day main conference on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a tabletop trade fair on Tuesday.
