11 vehicles chosen for Nov. 3 DARPA Urban Challenge Event, blog tells more

-- Control Engineering, 11/1/2007

UPDATE: Click here to see who won the Urban Challenge race!

Victorville, CA
- The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) today announced that 11 vehicles have been selected as finalists to compete in the DARPA Urban Challenge Event on Nov. 3, 2007, at the former George Air Force Base in Victorville, CA. Prizes total more than $3.5 million.

A Control Engineering blog by Paul Grayson, AIMing for Automated Vehicles, explains how the race helps advance the use of sensors, robotics, motion control, wireless networking, software, and autonomous controllers. Transport vehicles without drivers could save lives in dangerous situations.

At present, Control Engineering has four other blogs, accessible through the links below, and on its homepage:

System Integration: Water/Wastewater—This started as a one-year, $2 million+ project for a Baton Rouge area SCADA system. The year is up, but the project continues under the watchful eye of Stan Prutz of QDS Systems.
