Built-in features save installation, add-on costs for ac drive

-- Control Engineering, 11/1/2007

Plainville, CT—Cost- and performance-conscious facility operators and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will appreciate new, full-featured, easy-to-use ac drives from GE Consumer & Industrial: the AF-60 LP Micro Drive for small motor controls, AF-600 FP Fan & Pump Drive for HVAC and pump applications, and AF-650 GP General Purpose Drive for control of mixers and material handling applications. The compact drives have many built-in features for easy setup and installation and meet global standards.

GE Consumer & Industrial AF-6 Series drives saves costs by simplifying installation and decreasing the need for add-on equipment.
Features include PID controller to optimize operation, communication networks for Modbus RTU, Metasys N2, and Apogee FLN P1 (AF-600 FP drive); logic controller, fan and pump macros (AF-600 FP drive); dc link reactors for very low harmonic disturbance of the power supply, Class A2 RFI protection, and automatic energy savings.

Auto-tuning optimizes motor performance and reduces set-up time. A brake chopper option eliminates separately mounted dynamic brake unit.

The drives, with wiring diagram and template on the lid, can be set up and running in less than five minutes with GE’s Quick Menu. They have a removable and hot pluggable, illuminated LCD display with a full-function keypad. “INFO” key provides full-text, context-sensitive information to ease programming, without printed manuals. Users can set up one drive via hot pluggable feature then copy settings to other drives.

Quick Menu provides easy access to all basic settings, such as parameters and values, rotation direction indication, set-up indication, custom user displays, trended charts display speed and torque. Easy-to-use PC software connects to the drive via a USB lead.

They handle from 110% to 150% current overload for up to one minute.
