Underwater force/torque sensor

-- Control Engineering, 12/1/2007

process control, system integration
The IP68 Underwater DAQ Sensor is a force/torque sensor for use in underwater (fresh water) environments. ATI Industrial Automation reports that its sensors are used in Naval research applications and tank testing for aerospace applications. Nitrile and silicone O-rings are incorporated to assure that no water enters the units. Sensors were tested at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division. After two days of testing and inspection at the NAVSEA (the Navy’s experts for maritime technology) facility, no leaks were detected. ATI’s sensors with an IP68 rating can be used to a depth of 10 meters for underwater testing, weightlessness simulations, and other underwater applications. When submerged, they exhibit a decrease in Fz output value as it relates to submersion depth. When used in non-water fluids, customers must contact ATI to review seal material customization options or to receive information regarding loss of Fz range versus operating depth. Sensors are available in five models measuring from 5.8 to 70 lbs. www.ati-ia.com ATI Industrial Automation
