Secure WiFi for any electronic device

Staff -- Control Engineering, 1/1/2008

system integration
With Lantronix's device server in a machine, users can manage their equipment over a wireless network.
MatchPort b/g Pro from Lantronix is an embedded module that provides 802.11 b/g wireless connectivity for virtually any device with a serial interface on its microcontroller. This application-ready device server enables OEMs to build integrated networking and Web services into their products that enable users to access, monitor and manage their equipment over a wireless network or over the Internet with the highest levels of security. MatchPort b/g Pro is part of the Lantronix MatchPort family of pin/form-factor compatible modules enabling OEMs to build wired or wireless networking into their products using the same board design.

MatchPort b/g Pro includes a suite of advanced protocols to ensure data privacy and authenticity. In addition to supporting standard WPA and WPA2 wireless security specifications, it includes: IEEE 802.11i, a suite of 802.1x Extensible Authentication Protocols (EAP) (EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS, PEAP and LEAP), and end-to-end SSL 3.0, SSH and AES encryption. According to the company, these features make MatchPort b/g Pro ideal for applications where protecting sensitive data is critical. For example, they enable manufacturers to preserve patient privacy in medical device applications and maintain data integrity by ensuring only authorized devices are the source of information.

The module provides seamless transition from one access point to another for faster and simpler remote mobility. The MatchPort b/g Pro also features a browser interface to remotely view current radio parameters and facilitate remote diagnostics and troubleshooting, which can reduce support costs and prevent costly technician visits. The wireless device server will also include a comprehensive software development kit for end users to develop and deploy custom applications.
