Free help: Isolated ground wiring devices, grounding tips

-- Control Engineering, 2/6/2008

Rosslyn, VA –  Certain wiring devices and accessories help protect sensitive equipment from malfunction due to noise on the equipment grounding path. Learn who’s offering help for what devices and click through to get a free electronic guide.

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Wiring Device Section published Application Guide for Isolated Ground Wiring Devices on Jan. 18. The publication covers wiring devices and accessories, such as receptacles, single or duplex with straight blade, or locking NEMA configurations rated 15 A to 60 A and 125 V to 600 V. Accessories include color-coded mating plugs and wall plates to identify isolated ground receptacles.

The free guide covers National Electrical Code requirements, applications for isolated ground circuits, and troubleshooting and maintenance of such installations, NEMA says. It does not consider analysis of noise currents on the grounding system of power supply circuits or their effects on sensitive electronic equipment, the organization explains.

A no-charge download of an electronic copy of the NEMA Application Guide for Isolated Ground Wiring Devices is available.
