ISA Wireless Interest Group seeks input: Have some?

-- Control Engineering, 2/11/2008

Burlington, MAISA100 Interest Group on Discrete and Hybrid Manufacturing met on Jan. 25, 2008; Millennial Net Inc. hosted the second teleconference meeting. The 11 attendees who phoned in agreed that promotion is a key task for the Interest Group to pave the way for the next stage in the standards-development process: setting up a viable Study Group. End user participation and identification of candidates to chair the study group are important to forming a viable nucleus.

“We must reach out to gain awareness and participation by the broad community of discrete and hybrid manufacturing/automation,” participants said. Millennial Net’s Mark O’Hearne, who has been leading the effort, reported that things were already moving forward to promoting the interest group. Control Engineering published a story from the first call; ARC expressed interest in providing some coverage to its clients; and Chip Lee from the ISA offered marketing resources to help promote the new Interest Group. ISA plans include a press release, email to members and information on the ISA website. ISA’s Charley Robinson will be the contact for inquiries. He can be reached by email at crobinson@isa.org, or by telephone at 919-990-9213.

The group’s brainstorming focused on the near term opportunity to leverage the ARC Forum and ISA meetings co-located in Orlando, FL, Feb. 4-7. The main idea is to get the word out about the interest group with a call to action of joining the next conference call, which is planned for Feb. 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. EST. Interested parties in the U.S. and Canada may dial in to 866-332-6857 and use the conference code 9909227. The international dial-in number is 770-790-2259.
