Customer application: China petroleum selects enterprise software platform

-- Control Engineering, 3/5/2008

China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) is becoming the second national energy producer to adopt a single company-wide software platform for compliance and risk management functions. ESS is providing its environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) software for all locations.

ESS says CNPC will implement its software at facilities throughout mainland China, supporting upstream and downstream oil and gas, oilfield services, engineering and construction, petroleum material, and equipment manufacturing and supply operations. IBM Global Services will conduct the project deployment.

The ESS platform, which has been translated into Mandarin for use in China, includes a full spectrum of applications to support CNPC corporate initiatives for multimedia emissions control — including greenhouse gas and carbon management — as well as health and safety incident mitigation and prevention, EH&S performance management and emergency planning/response management.

CNPC reportedly selected this platform based on its earlier successful implementation at PetroChina.  PetroChina’s implementation represented a major landmark as the first enterprise-wide compliance and risk management software deployment of its kind in the country. The integrated software platform enabled PetroChina, the world’s largest company by market capitalization, to increase productivity by driving process improvements that generated time and cost savings while also improving management decision making.

Robert Johnson, CEO of ESS says, “CNPC officials chose ESS following an extensive review of available EH&S software products on the marketplace. Companies worldwide, such as CNPC and PetroChina, are selecting our integrated enterprise platform because we deliver proven, reliable solutions that reduce complexity, risks and costs. We are excited about this major deployment in China as yet another milestone demonstrating how ESS software is transforming the way companies manage EH&S and emergency management information on both a tactical and strategic level to ensure business sustainability.”
