Canadian water treatment plant to get $23M in new controls

JMP Engineering Inc., an industrial system integration company, has received a $23 million contract for water treatment controls for a new plant in Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada. The upgrade includes a plantwide Ethernet network with a wireless radio component.

The solution addresses a range of services. The project will include control design, supply, and integration for high-lift and low-lift pumps, UV system, high-rate clarifier, generator, filters, and a Wonderware SCADA system. JMP is to supply and configure plant network hardware, which includes a plantwide Ethernet network with a wireless radio component, an intercom system, and a closed caption TV monitoring system.

 “The Township had a tight budget that required additional design work through the summer,” said Marc Falardeau of JMP’s Environmental Division. “This new solution truly meets the needs of the community and is a great opportunity for JMP to contribute to it.”

“We were pre-qualified for this project because of our industry experience and ability to understand and deliver on the customer's specific needs even in this price-critical market,” added Paul Wilson, JMP vice president, sales and marketing. “Working with our solution partners, we are confident that the township will get the plant they have been waiting for.”

Work will begin on the project at once; commissioning is scheduled for spring 2009.

In separate news, for the fifth consecutive year, Wonderware, a business unit of Invensys, received Frost & Sullivan's "Product of the Year" in the human-machine interface (HMI) category. Wonderware InTouch 10.0 and System Platform 3.0 software also were recognized for their ability to assist manufacturers in achieving operational excellence by maximizing equipment utilization and operational effectiveness. According to Frost & Sullivan, Wonderware InTouch 10.0 HMI and System Platform 3.0 software solutions are likely to emerge as a benchmark for innovative approaches to real-time operational challenges faced by customers in the discrete, hybrid and process industries.
