Stunning designs: SolidWorks announces winners of second annual student design contest

-- Control Engineering, 4/1/2008

SolidWorks Corporation, the Concord, MA-based company specializing in 3D computer aided design (CAD) solutions, recently announced the winners of its second annual Student Design Contest. The winning entries were judged in parallel with the SolidWorks World 2008 Design Contest and, according to company sources, “the winning student designs nearly matched the quality of professional engineers’ entries.” The student contest is open to engineers from middle school through graduate school who are using SolidWorks software. “It’s important to recognize the work of students who are just starting out in their computer-aided design and engineering work,” said Marie Planchard, director of worldwide education markets for SolidWorks Corporation. “Yet it’s evident from the work they submitted that their designs stand up to the best of the professional design contest.”

Winners represent an impressive cross-section of students from around the globe, with the top three winning designs coming from Japan, Poland and the United States respectively.

“I’m thrilled to win second prize,” said winner Lukasz Korenkiewicz of the Bialystok Technical University in Poland. “It validates my rapidly developing design and engineering skills, which have improved steadily since I started using SolidWorks last year. The software has been easy to learn yet is packed with capabilities for helping me realize any product I can imagine.”
