Easier connections: Encoders get faster wireless

Goleta, CABEI Industrial Encoders has released SwiftComm, a wireless interface for encoders that was designed for motion control applications, providing a robust wireless signal in real time over a secure network. Unlike other wireless technology such as Wi-Fi, SwiftComm fast boot-up and transmission time permit a seamless interface with existing control systems.

Simply connect the SwiftComm transmitter to an encoder and the SwiftComm receiver to a control system and apply power without expensive, time-consuming cabling, says BEI Industrial Encoders. The system includes the transmitter-receiver pair, which communicates using a point-to-point frequency-hopping 2.4 GHz RF protocol. Proprietary radio protocols include a wide security code range, data encryption, handshaking, and error checking that provides a secure, robust wireless interface system.

Durability and flexibility are enhanced with NEMA 4 weatherproof enclosures, panel-mounting options, antenna choices, and wide-range dc power inputs. The system is suitable for a variety of industrial applications where cable runs are expensive to install and maintain, company says.
