Signal conditioners: Configurable, universal series for process applications

-- Control Engineering, 6/19/2008

Weidmuller has launched the Mann Series, a new family of innovative products for processing analog signals. This new series reportedly ranges from simple dedicated units to complex microprocessor-controlled devices that can be used with almost all signal types and measurement sensors.

The new products offer a variety of integrated functions including timing delays, adjustable threshold values and a programmable linearization function. These integrated functions provide process automation users the ability to configure the modules to meet specific application needs while reducing the number of products required.

The Mann series includes signal isolators and transmitters, process alarms, multi-channel processing modules, indicators and configurable displays, counters/totalizers and calibration devices. The company says custom configuration is easy with adjustable and simple menu systems. Data stored in the modules can be accessed through passwords or a secure cable-link, providing for added security. These features allow for quick start up and reduced machine downtime.

Portable loop calibrators offer a choice of hand-held units for routine loop checking, which promises to ease checking of transmitters or valves even in the harshest process environments.

Each product in the series line features an extruded aluminum housing designed to withstand harsh process environments. All modules are DIN-rail mountable and have UL approvals.
