Five awards for Control Engineering for covers, case history, column

Chicago – The Control Engineering team won four awards and swept the category for best illustrated cover at the 2008 American Society of Business Publication Editors Midwest/South regional awards held here recently. [UPDATE: The publication also received one Silver award from the national competition.] The regional Azbee awards, distributed in Chicago this month, selected 98 editorial or design award winners from among almost 2,000 entries.

Control Engineering North America swept the Best Illustrated Cover category by winning the gold, silver and bronze awards in the category for magazines with more 80,000 circulation. The winners are: 

Gold - April 2007 - Are you Secure?
Silver - June 2007 - Putting the “Industrial” in Ethernet.
Bronze - December 2007 - Connecting the Plant and the Enterprise.

The illustrator for all three covers is Tom Rybarczyk. Art director for all is Frances Baetiong. Senior art director for the April cover was Mary Sondergaard (retired). Renee Robbins, senior editor, was then editorial director, and Michelle Palmer, publisher.

Control Engineering
North America also won a Gold award for Best Case History in a magazine with more than 80,000 circulation for "Poetry in Motion," a discussion of the technology behind Ka, a Circe du Soleil show in Las Vegas by Peter Welander, process industries editor, and writer of that article.

Mark Voigtmann won a national ASBPE award for his columns
National Award, Silver, "Best Regular Column"
UPDATE: The Legalities column written by Mark Voigtmann for Control Engineering has won a Silver level national award for Best Regular Column. That award was announced at the national convention in Kansas City.
