Team #23 LAAE
August 24, 2007
DARPA Urban Challenge team #23 on my list is LAAE. LAAE stands for Los Altos Academy of Engineering, a high school, located in Hacienda Heights, CA 91745. Their vehicles name is Zeus and the overall operation is called Project Zeus.
As an engineering school, they have made participation in engineering contests a school assignment. They have been building solar vehicles and competing in national robotic competitions regularly. They are part of a mentoring program which include engineers from Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Universal Spacelines, Northrop Grumman, and AC Propulsion.

"The Los Altos Engineering Academy has a tradition of integrating math and science curriculum with student directed engineering projects. Students apply academic knowledge to solve real-world problems. From solar and electric powered cars to human powered airplanes, students learn to use teamwork to design and construct large scale projects. Associations with Edison, TRW, Hughes, and AeroVironments give students access to leading-edge technology and expertise. Cooperation with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State LA has provided academy students with access to some of the best solar car technology in America."

This is a team who has some serious players for friends and is a team worth watching.
