BP chief quits
BP chief quits
May 2, 2007
This morning I was reading an article in the Chicago Tribune headlined "BP chief quits after losing court bid to block stories." Long story short, John Browne has lost a legal battle to suppress news stories about his involvement in some sordid personal misuses of company funds. It also cited "shareholder wrath over a deadly Texas refinery blast and oil leaks in Alaska."
You can find interesting discussions of that refinery blast in an earlier blog posting here. (Scroll down to "Scary but true stories.") What I find ironic is the ongoing marketing that BP is doing to position themselves as the "green" oil company. Their TV ads feature happy cartoon characters in shades of white, yellow and green. Oddly there is no mention of the circumstances leading up to that refinery blast or the corrosion problems in Alaska. The stories of systematic disregard for the most basic maintenance and outright negligence are thoroughly documented. Somehow that doesn't show up in the ads.Posted by Peter Welander on May 2, 2007 | Comments (0)
