The most important fieldbus advantage?
March 29, 2007
In a recent podcast (Click here to listen) recorded at the Fieldbus Foundation General Assembly, a group of end users talk about their hands-on experience using Foundation Fieldbus. While they are only discussing that specific brand, bear in mind that other fieldbus architectures are capable of similar functions and can provide similar advantages.
Carl Henning with the Profibus Trade Organization listened to the podcast to check out his competition and sent me the following comment:
“Nothing like people from the real world to place attention where it’s appropriate! [That’s for sure.] I especially liked the comments about not just replacing 4-20 mA. If you just use a fieldbus for that you miss a big part of the benefit – the diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities. Savings in downtime are much more important than savings at installation time. And they commented about training, too. If you don’t train, you don’t get the benefits! And of course all the comments apply to any fieldbus, not just FF.”
‘Nuff said.
