Another industry blog!
Another industry blog!
March 24, 2007
Welcome to yet another control industry blog. Let me introduce myself with a few tidbits:
I have a New Yorker cartoon in my cube that shows two dogs having a talk. One says, "I had my own blog for a while, but I decided to go back to just pointless, incessant barking." That cartoon reminds me that there is a lot of incessant barking going on, with far more material available these days than is useful or interesting, and few people have the time to look at it. My objective is to publish a few short thoughts with some regularity that do have a point. This blog will cover the same areas I do in my Control Engineering editorial beats, namely process industries. I like to say that I enjoy technology in context, not as an end in itself. In my responsibilities here (various articles and two monthly newsletters) I travel frequently, spending a lot of time talking to industry people, and even the occasional end user. I can't claim any special insights, beyond the fact that I am able to spend more time sifting through information than most people can afford. If I can claim a gift, it's the ability to translate technical jargon into something useful. Whether it's useful to you at any given tiem, we'll have to see.Jack Benny stayed at the top of the comedy heap for decades because he didn't always insist on being the center of attention or have all the gags for himself. In a business like this, that's good advice.Posted by Peter Welander on March 24, 2007 | Comments (1)
