1st New RTU Commissioned
December 13, 2007
Last week we completed the software and installed the new RTU at Pump Station 3. Recall this was an emergency appropriation for just this station as the old controller had failed and there were no spare parts available. Installation was completed in one day as specified, which couldn't have been done had we proceeded as originally specified with a totally new panel.
After a weeks operation, we discussed alternation and speed control with City's pump station electrical maintenance supervisor. He was expecting a standard alternation scheme, however the specs we had been given specified a least run time alternation scheme with manual override. He was expecting speed control based upon level rather than the specified PID speed control. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in the position of potentially needing to satisfy two masters with conflicting requirements. Certainly the City needs to be satisfied. We also have to deal with the primary consultant who generally holds us to the letter of the written plans and specifications. We need a ruling on this, preferably from the DPW director.
Since delivering the public works director's requested proposal to complete the project, not much has happened. I expect it is likely a first step will be a site visit of the recently completed Pump Station 3.
