PackML ISA Technical report from Make2Pack is finally available!
The much anticipated ISA-TR88.00.02-2008, Machine and Unit States: An Implementation Example of ISA-88, is now online from ISA.
Click on the link above to read ISA's description of the report, which says, in part, "ISA88 committee has defined a batch standard series that provides terminology and a consistent set of concepts and models for batch manufacturing plants and batch control. These standards, however, were not defined in the context of packaging machines, or machines that perform discrete operations. As the ISA-88 batch standards continue to evolve, the context of the standard models may be extended to include the entire plant, integrating the software definitions of batch, packaging, converting and warehousing."
If you are an ISA member the report is free, otherwise there is a minor cost.
This was a great effort between the process and packaging industries that demonstrates the power of the ISA 88 concepts in industries other than Batch! The ISA link provides additional information about how the report, and the standard, can help.
Also prior postings related to this topic include:

ISA-TR88.00.02-2008, Machine and Unit States: An Implementation Example of ISA-88 Congratulations to everybody who participated to bridge the gap between the various camps. Also our special appreciation to Dave and Mike for keeping the ball rolling in the right direction until we could all agree on common models and terminology. Like the strong influence of ISA-88 part 1 on batch control systems, we can now also look forward to more consistent packaging machine control systems. Willie Lötz The South African Breweries Limited
