Make2Pack creates a real world example
November 5, 2007

As the Make2Pack effort has evolved, we found it important to create a real world example that we could use to explain concepts to people with very different backgrounds. We wanted something that would have meaning to all involved and that we could also use to validate our concepts and implementation approaches beyond just conceptually. It is a lot of fun to sit around and pontificate and then document our thoughts, but until there is a real working example that can be used to demonstrate and validate what is said and heard, there is great risk of messing it all up.

On Dec. 7, 2006, using a prototype, the Make2Pack group demonstrated that the concept of a single approach to automation across many different industries was valid and worthwhile. There was still a lot to do to make the concepts useable to the level we all intend and need. That is what the group is continuing to refine. We are working with several vendors who are again creating systems that will control our prototype and be able to demonstrate what it is and how it will benefit those who adopt and use the Make2Pack concepts. It is my hope that we will have another demonstration in early 2008.

Description of the Make2Pack prototype will follow in a few minutes.
