  • Encari's New NERC CIP Compliance Webinar Series

    January 31, 2009

    Encari is pleased to announce that beginning in February 2009, Encari will be launching its complimentary monthly NERC CIP Compliance Webinar Series.  Encari’s first Webinar (more details below) will focus on compliance considerations regarding NERC CIP-007-1, Systems Security Management.  Not only do we hope you will attend this first informative Webinar, we also hope you will become an ongoing participant at our future Webinars.

    This Webinar will focus on the operational, integration and sustainment efforts in support of the NERC CIP-007-1 Reliability Standard.  Registered entities with critical assets must protect associated cyber assets located within the Electronic Security Perimeter (ESP), pursuant to CIP-005-1, with the appropriate controls, as identified in CIP-007-1.  These controls also affect systems enabling the physical security perimeter (CIP-006-1) and the devices providing access control and monitoring of the ESP.

    The Webinar will focus on the following concepts pertaining to critical assets, such as control centers, substations and generating facilities:

    • Developing and maintaining categorical cyber asset test procedures for significant changes;
    • Establishing and documenting a process to limit cyber asset ports and services;
    • Enabling a holistic patch management program in accordance with EMS SCADA and DCS generation vendors;
    • Protecting and developing a process for cyber assets malicious software prevention;
    • Monitoring user, administrative and shared account access with technical and procedural controls;
    • Monitoring, alerting and archiving cyber asset system events pursuant to CIP-008-1;
    • Developing disposal and deployment methods and procedures to prevent unauthorized access to information protected pursuant to CIP-003-1, R4; and
    • Performing cyber vulnerability assessments.

    Attendees of this Webinar will more fully understand the measures necessary to satisfy the requirements included in CIP-007-1 and FERC-directed changes pursuant to FERC Order 706a.

    It is important to note that no one NERC CIP-007-1 compliance strategy will be suitable for any and all organizations.  As such, the subject matter discussed during this Webinar should not be interpreted as guidance ensuring NERC CIP-007-1 compliance.
