Glad to be back at Control Engineering

July 06, 2010

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that RBI ceased publishing Control Engineering and dozens of other magazines on April 16. This follows closures of other titles earlier in the year and the sale of many from their stable. The company decided to get out of the business information business almost completely.

Fortunately, CFE Media was formed to take over Control Engineering, Plant Engineering, and Consulting and Specifying Engineer. This new company actually wants to be in the publishing business, which is best for all concerned. So, we’re back, including this blog.

Frankly, it was a little alarming to see the old Websites go dead. Suddenly all that work and collected information was lost, including nearly 400 posts from this blog, sort of like the local library burning to the ground. (You can decide if my postings are worthy of the library analogy. Some might regard it more like a fresh coat of paint covering the scribbing on the walls.) But much of that material will return over time.

For those of us on the ground, we have to learn many things all over again. All our internal systems have changed, including the way we post stories, so don’t be surprised if you see some formatting oddities or other glitches with the Website. Such things don’t happen automatically, even for a publication that deals with automation. Is that poetic justice of some sort?

For now, I suggest you send me some sort of email so we can make sure we reestablish contact. You can reach me at pwelander(at)cfemedia.com. In the brief time we had to flee our RBI facilities, I’m afraid we weren’t all able to take everything with us that we’d hoped. So unless I’ve been in touch with you in the last few weeks, it might be prudent to send me some kind of email so I have your information again.

In any case, we’re glad to be back.
