Education: Bosch Rexroth helps Texas A&M establish fluid power lab Bosch Rexroth partnered with Farmers Branch, TX based industrial tool supplier Womack Machine Supply, and Texas A&M University to create the Bosch Rexroth-R.C. Womack Fluid Power Laboratory as a state-of-the-art facility showcasing eight new fluid-power trainers, including pneumatic and industrial hydraulic systems from Bosch Rexroth. Brushless adjustable speed: Brushless motors and controls feature adjustable speed Baldor Electric Company announced a new series of brushless adjustable speed controls and servo motors designed to provide customers the advantages and benefits of brushless technology for adjustable speed applications. The company says these motors and controls promise less maintenance, quieter operation, higher torques, and more efficiency in smaller packages that competing products. Variable frequency drives: ABB claims industry’s most compact VFD ABB introduced OEMs and system integrators to the most compact and slimmest motor drive in ABB’s component drive range. The small-horsepower model ACS55 variable frequency drive is rated from 0.25 to 3 horsepower.
System on chip: IP Core Store builds a better mousetrap A fledgling company called IPextreme has come out with a new business model for distributing semiconductor intellectual property to the fabless semiconductor folks. It's best characterized as Amazon.com for semiconductor IP. The new company helps developers at the low-footprint end of the embedded-system industry create their own highly integrated system-on-chip ICs. Simulation: Software automatically ports Simulink models into Green Hills IDE The MathWorks and Green Hills Software announced Embedded IDE Link MU, a new product from The MathWorks for model-based design that automatically deploys code generated from Simulink models into Green Hills’ MULTI integrated development environment (IDE). The software enables seamless execution on a wide range of embedded microprocessors, including the Freescale Power Architecture (formerly called PowerPC). Software development: Tool supports FAA-certified Linux development Safety-critical application development tool and engineering services supplier DDC-I announced that its Eclipse-based OpenArbor mixed-language development environment now supports LynuxWorks’ FAA Certified LynxOS-178 real-time operating system. OpenArbor developers working with any combination of Ada, C, and Embedded C++ (EC++) can now deploy their safety-critical applications on LynxOS-178 target systems certifiable to DO-178B Level A, the FAA’s highest level of safety criticality. Embedded hardware: PC/104-plus card connects multiple embedded system cards Mesa Electronics introduced the 4I71 stackable PC/104-plus card that combines a 100BaseT Ethernet MAC with a 9-port switch. The card makes it easy to connect multiple embedded system cards without the awkward power or mechanical problems with consumer type Ethernet switches.
Vision tool: Vision system speeds up semiconductor wafer pre-alignment At SEMICON Japan, Cognex Corporation announced the In-Sight 1820 vision-based wafer pre-aligner. The company says that, utilizing its proprietary NotchMax alignment technology, the system provides precise non-contact measurement of wafer position and orientation that is faster and more accurate than comparably priced mechanical systems. Motion sensing: Low-profile through-hole-mounted accelerometer Dytran Instruments introduced a new integrated electronics piezo electric (IEPE) accelerometer that is specifically designed for applications where a 360° orientation and a low profile design are important. The company says the lightweight accelerometer (9.6 grams) is ideal for use where vertical clearance is limited. Tough actuators: Rugged electromagentic linear actuators tolerate harsh operating conditions SKF USA introduced Jaeger-brand IMD3 Series electromechanical linear actuators. The company says these actuators have been engineered to run quietly and deliver longer service life for a wide range of industrial actuation applications. Enhanced corrosion resistance and rugged construction contribute to reliable performance even under the most demanding or harsh operating conditions. OEM relationship: Gravimetric feeder line features Allen-Bradley controls Rockwell Automation announced that feeder and meter manufacturer Schenck AccuRate is now incorporating Allen-Bradley products from Rockwell Automation into its line of Mechatron gravimetric feeders, claiming end users can achieve increased levels of accuracy. The company says its customers have consistently specified Rockwell Automation controls for their machines, and both companies share an interest in the growing development of mechatronic design principles.
Call for papers: Presenters wanted for Siemens Automation Summit Siemens Energy & Automation reminds all parties interested in presenting their work at the 2008 Siemens Energy & Automation Summit that they have until Jan. 30, 2008 to submit papers highlighting innovative uses of technology, addressing unique applications, or dealing with business challenges. Paper acceptance will be announced March 1, 2008, and final presentations are due May 18, 2008. Rugged hardware: Minicomputer takes 'ruggedized' to the next level Tangent Inc., announced its Rugged Mini UX industrial-strength mini computer that, the company says, takes “ruggedized” to the next level. The computer is solid state, fanless, designed for use on factory floors or in the field. It can be mounted to carts or vehicles, or in any harsh environment. It withstands shock, dust, vibration, humidity, extreme cold and heat, and even electromagnetic interference (EMI). |
