Compact RFID readers have IP67 protection

Siemens expanded its Simatic Ident Portfolio for intralogistics and assembly line applications, with RFID read/write ranges of 20-30 mm.

06/17/2011

Siemens Industry Automation Division has announced that it has expanded their Simatic Ident portfolio of industrial identification solutions by adding the Simatic RF200 RFID system. The new radio frequency identification system of compact readers for the high-frequency range includes three new products with IP67 protection, including Simatic RF210R, RF220R and RF260R.

Available for use with all Siemens ISO 15693 transponders, these readers are designed for applications in intralogistics and assembly lines where low to mid-performance range is necessary. The two compact readers RF210R and RF220R are perfect for short read/write ranges of up to 20 mm and 30 mm. With a cylindrical design and thread diameters of 18 mm and 30 mm respectively, each having an approximate length of 70 mm.

The RF260R reader features a rectangular design of 75 mm x 75 mm x 40 mm, and suitable for read/write ranges up to 130 mm. The three readers comprising the Simatic RF200 system are optimal for assembly and handling systems, or for assembly lines for the identification of workpiece carriers.

"This is a versatile system of readers whose applications also include production logistics and intralogistics identification such as material flow control, work-in-process, or the identification of containers," said Ed Housler of Siemens industry automation systems - factory sensors. "The new readers are also suitable for material handling systems including electric monorail systems, automatic guided vehicles, or palletizing systems where the transponders are attached to the products or pallets.

"Just like all other RFID systems from Siemens, the Simatic RF200 system can be integrated simply and uniformly into automation systems such as Simatic or Simotion. Using predefined standard S7 function blocks and a comprehensive range of communication modules supporting Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, and further bus systems Simatic RF200 system offers endless flexibility. This significantly simplifies programming, commissioning, diagnostics, and maintenance.

Siemens Industry Automation division also offers read/write devices, antennas, mobile data tags, software, industrial automation networks, and consulting and design. RFID products include Simatic RF300 in the 13.56 MHz HF range, and Simatic RF600 in the 915MHz UHF range. The Simatic Ident line includes optical code reader systems for 1D codes (barcode), 2D codes – such as data matrix codes (DMC) – and OCR (optical character recognition).
