Allen-Bradley ControlLogix L73 and L75 Programmable Automation Controllers - Allen-Bradley ControlLogix L73 and L75 controllers provide advanced memory, speed and process capabilities to enhance the motion and information capabilities. This is a Control Engineering 2011 Engineers' Choice (EC) nominee.Rockwell Automation has made two additions to its Allen-Bradley ControlLogix family of controllers, both leveraging the single design environment and networking protocol of the company's Integrated Architecture system. The ControlLogix L73 and L75 programmable automation controllers (PACs) offer integrated process, discrete and motion control capabilities on a single platform to help manufacturers minimize cost, improve the flow of manufacturing data, and ultimately move towards plantwide optimization.

The controllers feature advanced memory, speed and processing capabilities for a wide range of control demands, from high performance logic and motion to information-intensive process applications. For complex, high-performance motion applications, the PACs interface seamlessly with motion drives through EtherNet/IP and SERCOS network interfaces. They are capable of supporting as many as 100 axes of integrated motion, further simplifying synchronization of complex motion applications. A new CPU provides twice the performance compared to previous ControlLogix controllers, and new energy storage modules eliminate the need for lithium batteries, helping manufacturers avoid the maintenance and environmental issues associated with transporting and disposing batteries.

A USB port provides faster uploads and downloads, firmware upgrades and online edits. The controllers feature an on-board display to provide enhanced diagnostics and run-time information. The 1 GB secure digital card that ships with each controller provides data integrity, and faster reads and writes than previous CompactFlash technology, allowing users to store their application, controller and communications module firmware and/or tag data for later use. The ControlLogix L73 PAC is ideally suited for users requiring up to 16 MB of memory, while the ControlLogix L75 PAC offers 32 MB of memory.
