This is a Control Engineering 2013 Engineers' Choice finalist. The Raytek Equipment Monitoring system is a plug and play, early warning device used for asset monitoring and predictive maintenance of low to medium voltage switchgear, electrical panels, motors, gearboxes and critical process equipment. This new infrared noncontact temperature system is based on the proven technology of the MI3 Compact Series sensors and provides 24/7 continuous monitoring for early detection of thermal issues. The system is small in size to fit in tight, hard-to-reach or enclosed locations and can monitor temperatures of -40 C to 600 C.

All components are IP65 rated to ensure long life in harsh environments. Live temperature data is provided to operators at the equipment site or remotely using PC-based Raytek DataTemp Multidrop software, allowing them to make educated decisions regarding the functionality of their equipmemnt. A rise or spike in temperature on the surface of equipment can be a leading indicator that there may be an equipment problem. Being aware of this temperature change means system diagnostics can be done and service planned with no interruption to production — saving money in time and resources. In addition, maintenance can be performed when needed, not when estimated — reducing maintenance costs.
