Foxboro PAC System - Combining high-performance integrated hybrid control and data acquisition at PLC pricing, the Foxboro PAC System is a flexible entry-level solution that can provide a foundation for a larger Enterprise Control System (ECS). This is a Control Engineering 2011 Engineers' Choice (EC) nominee. The Foxboro PAC System is a compact, versatile programmable automation controller and I/O subsystem that offers robust control and information capabilities for installations with fewer than 3,000 input/output (I/O) points, while also providing a foundation for a larger and even more capable Enterprise Control System (ECS). It integrates high performance, reliability and high I/O density with cost-effective redundancy options. All controllers, I/O modules and power supplies can be hot-swapped. The control unit and I/O system form the basis of a complete distributed control and recording environment capable of continuous analog, logic and sequential control, all in a financially attractive and easy-to-use system. The controller also features store-and-forward integration with a process historian.

The Foxboro PAC System was created specifically for hybrid market clients who want a powerful and reliable control system at an affordable price. The Foxboro PAC System is especially well-suited for control, alarm management, historian, web reporting and batch in the food and beverage, glass, metals, minerals, mining, life sciences, plastics, water and wastewater and other industries. The Foxboro PAC System incorporates technologies and knowledge grained from the world's largest and most complex plants, now bringing those levels of sophistication into systems priced in the PLC range.

As experience drains out of the factory and process automation workplace, the importance of ease-of-implementation and operation increases. The software in the Foxboro PAC system includes a single, common integrated development environment based on Microsoft .NET software. The system also includes industry-leading Wonderware InTouch 10.1 HMI software. The standards based approach, also provides flexibility to evolve applications further through integration with third-party systems, such as PLCs, safety instrumented systems, SCADA and business systems and other Invensys systems.
